CIBHS provides Crisis Intervention Training. Crisis
Intervention Team CIT programs throughout the United States and
in other nations worldwide promote and support collaborative
efforts to create and sustain more effective interactions among
law enforcement, mental health care providers, individuals with
mental illness, their families and communities and also to reduce
the stigma of mental illness.
The California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions (CIBHS)
has developed a Crisis Intervention Training Program Toolkit with
specific strategies for getting started.
This toolkit is intended for those in positions of planning and
implementing behavioral health crisis intervention programs for
law enforcement and other first responders.
In February 2014, with funding from the Mental Health Services
Oversight and Accountability Commission (MHSOAC), CIBHS began a
series of activities toward collecting information about CIT best
practices and practice gaps in California, including a survey of
California counties throughout the state. The report below is a
summary of the findings from these activities.
