Beyond The Beats & Lyrics: African American Transitional Aged Youth Males And The Mental Health System In California Webinar January 20, 2015
The webinar provides an overview of social determinants, specifically violence and discrimination, unemployment and problems with law enforcement, which contribute to the creation of challenges concerning the behavioral health of African American Transitional Aged Youth(TAY) Males. A specific area of focus will be relationships between law enforcement and young black men, and how negative, violent interactions have contributed to a possible increase in depression, anxiety, acting out and tendency to self-harm in many instances. Solutions and strategies that can be brought into play that might mitigate the impact of both the harmful interactions and point towards potential behavioral health solutions and interventions will be discussed. Expert panel members involved in the discussion will include Behavioral Health professionals, law enforcement, as well as African American TAY Males providing personal testimonies.
