Building the Evidence Summit for Community Defined Practices May 30, 2014
The summit focused on culturally-specific strategies for promoting wellness. Traditional approaches to healing were used as well as key considerations and concrete methods for building the evidence for community-based practices.
Community-specific presentations focused on the Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander, African American, and Native American populations. Wisdom keepers from these communities shared traditional approaches to healing. System allies discussed strategies for supporting and incorporating these practices into systems of care. Additional presentations featured examples of specific community-defined practices for each population and culturally-appropriate methods for determining their effectiveness. Funders and evaluators shared concrete strategies for building the evidence and funding community-based practices.
