Fred Osher, M.D., Council of State Governments Justice Center, Keynote Speaker
WHEN: August 1, 2012
Persons with mental illness and substance use disorders are overrepresented in the criminal justice system. This webinar will provide an overview of prevalence rates of substance use disorders, drug offenses, mental illness and co-occurring disorders in jails and state prisons across the country.
The presentation will discuss factors contributing to the overrepresentation and what accounts for higher recidivism rates on reentry. A comprehensive framework will address targeting criminogenic risk factors, assessment domains and recommended screening instruments, clinical practice tool box, tailoring interventions to the individual’s culture and learning style, challenges due to stigma, and keys to systems collaboration.
