An Evidence-based Trauma-informed Intervention for Substance Abuse

This six-hour training covers general trauma-informed care, and the Seeking Safety model and its implementation. The training offers a particular focus on treating persons with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders and a criminal justice history.

This training will cover definitions, rates, clinical presentation, dissociation, self-injury, reenactments, stage-based models of treatment, transference/countertransference, vicarious traumatization, behavioral contracts and cognitive strategies to help providers to become more trauma-informed. This training combines experiential exercises, video materials, demonstration of a session and discussion formats for an optimal learning experience. Persons who complete the one-day training will gain sufficient knowledge and skills to begin using the model with clients.
