An Update from Percy Howard, CIBHS President and CEO

To all our friends, partners, customers and vendors,

The California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions (CIBHS) continues to monitor the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) daily. Our top priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our staff, the public, your staff, and all you serve. CIBHS is carefully following the latest guidance issued by Governor Newsom, and as a result, we will continue to close our office until May 15, 2020, at which time we will review our circumstances. We continue to work virtually and are improving our capability to work in this context daily.

CIBHS has quickly pivoted to re-purpose the full range of our technical assistance, skill building and training offerings to virtual convenings. This includes clinical trainings (such as Strengths Model, Trauma-Focused CBT and other trainings), site visits and consultations being conducted via webinar. CIBHS is also offering a comprehensive 11-week Webinar Series, Minimizing Disruptions in Care, which is geared towards building clinical and administrative skills to equip behavioral health leaders and frontline staff to successfully work with clients in virtual environments, including telehealth and telephonically. The series is being generously funded by the California Healthcare Foundation (CHCF) and is offered in partnership with the County Behavioral Health Directors Association of California (CBHDA). This link will lead to registration and other information on the CIBHS website https://www.cibhs.org/minimizing-disruptions-care. CIBHS remains available to work with behavioral health providers and oversite entities to improve the quality of care available to consumers, children and family members in California through this difficult time and beyond.

A Few Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What does it mean that CIBHS is “working remotely?”

CIBHS has temporarily closed both the Sacramento and Los Angeles offices, remaining open “remotely”, and expects most business functions to continue as normal. Staff will be available during normal business hours (8:00am-5:00pm).

Can I reach someone at CIBHS by phone?

CIBHS work phones have been forwarded to staff member’s remote worksites. Voicemails are also automatically forwarded to the staff member’s emails, so rest assured that your message has been received. If you are having trouble reaching someone at CIBHS, please email info@cibhs.org.

Will CIBHS still be hosting meetings?

We are committed to continuing our work as planned and will do so using video and phone technologies. All group meetings or in-office meetings have been suspended until further notice. We will continue to monitor public health recommendations as the epidemic in California continues to unfold. CIBHS staff will contact you to either reschedule or to set up a meeting via video or phone.

Will CIBHS staff be traveling?

Until further notice, CIBHS staff members will not travel anywhere for work. We will provide regular updates on this via our website (www.cibhs.org) and through e-blasts.

How long does CIBHS plan to work remotely?

This plan is in place through May 15, 2020, at minimum. We will communicate any changes via the methods described above.

Thank you,

Percy Howard, III, LCSW
