A Toolkit for Getting Started

Behavioral Health Crisis Intervention Training and Programs for Law Enforcement and Other First Responders

The California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions (CIBHS) has developed a Crisis Intervention Training Program Toolkit with specific strategies for getting started.

This toolkit is intended for those in positions of planning and implementing behavioral health crisis intervention programs for law enforcement and other first responders.

The toolkit features:

  • Training program framework is known as the “Tiered Approach to Behavioral Health Crisis Intervention Training”. An innovative model for implementing programs rather than training
  • Practical strategies covering the “A to Zs” of planning, designing, implementing and evaluating training programs
  • Strategies for building effective community partnerships
  • Steps to developing interagency agreements and sharing information
  • Best practices around transferring custody
  • A person with lived experience and family member’s perspectives
