The Fordham University Children FIRST project received a grant to develop a professional training program for new and experienced caseworkers involved in independent living services in Connecticut. The program was designed with extensive input from foster youth about their needs. Four curricula were pilot-tested and implemented over the three-year period: an introductory course for new workers; Adolescent Sexuality; Working in Partnership with Youth; and Youth Assessment and Planning.Approximately 400 new caseworkers attended the one-day pre-service session about youth development and the involvement of youth in case planning.
