TFCBT is a therapy model developed by Drs. Judy Cohen, Tony
Mannarino and Esther Deblinger. It is used for children ages 3‐18
who have experienced one or more significant traumatic life
events, resulting in PTSD symptoms or functional impairments.
It is a short‐term therapy that involves individual sessions with
the child and parent/caregiver respectively, as well as joint
parent‐child sessions. A course of therapy typically consists of
12 – 20 weekly sessions, with each session lasting from 60 to 90
minutes.

The Sacramento Children’s Home identified the significant
prevalence of trauma with the children we were serving and were
committed to addressing this problem. We chose to invest
in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because of the
positive results in treating the negative impact of
trauma. Working with CIBHS has provides us the support and
monitoring that we needed to implement and sustain
TF-CBT. We have found CIBHS to be professional, timely and
quality partners.
The following TFCBT training protocol is used for CIBHS supported
TFCBT implementation projects, and is designed to help agencies
establish and sustain model adherent TFCBT programs.
